Wellesley Park East – Splash Pad and Park Improvements – Coming Soon

Like many of us, the splash pad in Wellesley Park East is starting to show its age with cracked surfaces and general wear and tear. Unlike us however, there’s a solution on the way!

The City had planned to replace the splash pad this year, and we at the Cabbagetown Residents Association saw a great opportunity to include some great Canadian art. Trish Finkelstein on our board approached the estate of Norval Morrisseau and they graciously gave permission for the use of the work “Grandchildren, Birds & Butterflies” to be used on the surface of the splash pad. The new splash pad will use aquaflex which is reputed to be better at withstanding weather extremes for a longer life.

In addition, there will be improvements to the park in general with additional seating, a fountain for people and dogs (separate nozzles…) and other general landscaping improvements. Construction is expected to begin in the autumn of 2014.
