Cabbagetown According To… Trish Finkelstein

This month, we’re featuring industrious board member Trish Finkelstein who is one of Cabbagetown’s most passionate advocates.
Trish Finkelstein and Family
Best place in Cabbagetown for a bite to eat…For lunch you can’t beat the fresh and delicious food from Merry Berry. For dinner I’m currently obsessed with Little Schmiddy’s.

Cabbagetown needs…A retail space that sells great baby and kid gear of both the fun and practical variety. You can tell what stage of life I’m in!

Favourite block…Sackville Street north of Wellesley. It’s a dead end street with a great view of the quaint houses on Alpha Av. It’s also close to the hidden gems which are the Wellesley Cottages, and close but not too close to all the amenities on Parliament Street. The perfect location.

Best public space…Wellesley Park. It has a fun kids playground, is the perfect site for the Forsythia Festival and will soon have a fantastic upgraded water play area for all the kids of Cabbagetown and St. Jamestown (and likely some young at heart adults) to enjoy on hot summer days and nights.

Favourite store…Hard question. I am a loyal customer to most of the retailers on Parliament and have come to enjoy getting to know many of the owners by name. I shop locally for almost everything and would encourage others to do the same. Our High Street has a lot to offer.

Cabbagetown pet peeve…Complainers who go to the media and purport to be speaking on behalf of the entire community without having any such authority. It makes Cabbagetowners seem petty and ungrateful.

Cabbagetown’s best kept secret…Laurie Ward, a shiatsu therapist who lives in the ‘hood and offers incredible in-home sessions. Healing at home, nothing better than that!

Best reason to join the Cabbagetown Residents Association (CRA)…To give back to this wonderful community.
