For our Throwback Thursday feature this week, how about these interesting pictures of Spruce St., looking west from Sackville St. in 1948 and 1949? Notice that the road was widened?
The wonderful gardens that are there today on the north side and the houses on the south side are nowhere to be found in either picture. The large chestnut tree on the north west corner that still stands today can be seen in its younger days.
If you’re interested in seeing other pictures of Toronto streets that were widened during this time (there were a lot), this article on blogto.com is excellent.
