Did You Know…Toronto Has A Repair Café?

This is slightly outside of the Cabbagetown area, but the Repair Café is one of those special events that I think might interest many cabbagetowners. I attended one of these gatherings recently and the positive energy of people working together to repair, rather than discard, “stuff” such as radios, lamps, cameras, sewing machines, computers, clothing and many other items was inspiring.

Volunteer “fixers” help visitors learn how to repair for free (they gladly accept donations, but it’s all up to you as to what you think the help you receive is worth).

They hold monthly gatherings at various locations around the city, but are oftentimes at Skills For Change at 791 St. Clair Ave. West and at the Toronto Reference Library at Yonge St. and Asquith Ave which are both near to Cabbagetown. The next event is January 17, 2015 at Skills For Change from 10 am to 2 pm.

If you’re interested in learning more and have a repair waiting in the basement for you to work on…I would highly recommend visiting: repaircafetoronto.ca
