Why no independent candidates attending ?
Hi Jon.
Good question. Candidates from the 4 major parties will be participating, but I’m not sure what the background is regarding other parties and independents. Let me find out and I’ll respond here.
Hi Jon.
Thanks again for your inquiry regarding the criteria for candidates to be invited to attend the November 20 debate. The committee of Residents Associations determined that although there have been some precedents, a debate with 11 participants would be unwieldy. The criteria used to determine invitees was that either the party, or the candidate (if independent) had to achieve 5% of the vote in Toronto Centre at the last election.
We’ve only just learned about it, but it seems that Rogers TV is hosting and televising a debate between the same 4 candidates but are going to be presenting prepared statements from the other candidates.
