José Shoe Repair Closing (Updated!)

The BIA’s November newsletter profiles José:
Shoe Man José To Stay
The Bulletin has a very nice report (by Cabbagetown’s own Eric Morse) on José and his reasons for staying open:
Soft Shoe? Cobbler chooses customers over retirement (thebulletin.ca – page 2)

UPDATE OCTOBER 3:
The Cabbagetowner spoke with José today, and he confirms that he changed his mind. After his retirement news got out, he had many residents visit to wish him well, and to pay for and pick up their belongings. After some (brief) consideration, he decided that he wasn’t ready to retire after all. He is going to continue for at least another 6 months and then review again at that time. He told me that he loves working and the people in the area, and he is very happy to be staying longer.

UPDATE OCTOBER 1:
A resident has reported to us today that José Shoe Repair is *not* closing. Perhaps everyone wishing him a happy retirement changed his mind, or he’s selling the business or it was just a ploy to get people to pick up their stuff :). Stay tuned…

Some happy / sad business news in the neighbourhood. Happily, José of José Shoe Repair is retiring. Sadly, that means his shop on Carlton Street is closing.

He has asked that anyone who has their shoes or other items at his store, to pick them up as soon as possible.

Happy retirement to José!
