We have received reports of fox and coyote sightings in the neighbourhood recently.
The coyote sighting was on Wellesley Street East at 2 p.m. on December 12 where a coyote was observed trotting down the middle of the street and then into Wellesley Park by the splash pad. The resident who saw the coyote wrote “…he has mange. No fur on his hind end or tail. He was not afraid and just hung out in the park for a bit.”
There have been three reported fox sightings in the last few days. One was last week on Carlton Street, east of Parliament and another was a possible fox sighting under a porch on Nasmith Avenue on Saturday December 10. One kind resident provided us with some pictures of a fox in Riverdale Park West on Sunday December 11 at 11:30 a.m. Sightings aren’t unusual in the neighbourhood, especially given our proximity to the Don Valley. The City of Toronto provides some good information on what to do (and what not to do) when you come into contact with these animals (links below the pictures).

Please call the Toronto Wildlife Centre if you see a fox or coyote with mange (loss of fur). They can capture and rehabilitate the animal as well as vaccinate them.
Good advice! I’ve used the Toronto Wildlife Centre’s services in the past, and they were very helpful.
