SUMMARY:Jane's Walk: Medical history in Cabbagetown and Regent Park
DESCRIPTION:Walk Leader: Peter Kopplin\, University of Toronto Medical Alumni Association \nMeet at the southwest corner of Carlton and Sherbourne streets\, at the edge of Allan Gardens. The walk will begin at Carlton and Sherbourne Street in front of Saint Luke’s United Church where Joseph Flavelle was a member when it was Sherbourne Street Methodist. Flavelle was a Toronto businessman and philanthropist who was influential in the building of the Toronto General Hospital on College Street. He was the board chairman at its beginning. \nProceeding south on Sherbourne the walk will pass the Rekai Centre nursing home and the Sherbourne Health Centre. This was the site of the original Central Hospital started by the Rekai brothers\, immigrant Hungarian doctors to Toronto after World War II. \nAccessibility notes: Bicycles welcome\, Busy sidewalks\, Dogs welcome. We will cross all thoroughfares at traffic lights. \n
