Crime Alert: Motorcycle Theft Interrupted By Alert Resident

This week’s Cabbagetown Neighbourhood Review has the story of an attempted motorcycle theft, interrupted by the owner…and leading to an arrest.

Attempted motorcycle theft
Andrew keeps his bike parked and locked on Wellesley near the park. About 9 am on Tuesday morning earlier this week, he saw a man fooling around with it and went out to see what was going on. A second bike was parked beside his. The guy had a tool belt and possibly a set of skeleton keys. When Andrew challenged him, he barked right back, stalling while he kept working the bike’s lock. Andrew called the police and used his phone to snap the guy’s photo along with another one of the second bike parked nearby. The guy took off. The police identified the second bike as another stolen vehicle and then caught the guy six hours later in a truck loaded with other stolen bikes. Nice.
