UPDATE: The 3 bicycles (earlier reports of 5 bikes were incorrect) reported stolen, were retrieved by TCHC Special Constables – two bicycles from a TCHC property on Winchester Street and one that was abandoned on the street nearby.
We have received two reports of bicycles being stolen last night. We’ll post any additional information here once we hear back about photos, and any additional information such as whether police have been contacted.

Incident Two:
We received an email about a separate incident.
Last night at 5 am someone broke into our back yard, and stole both of our bikes. The bikes were both locked to a fence and locked to each other. We saw the people walking back from ontario street out of breath.
The bikes were taken from an aberdeen laneway. One is a bright yellow women single speed fuji bike with cow coloured grip tape, and gold hubs, the other is a large mens all matte black bike whit wide black rims.
Please post this and Keep an eye out for the cabbage town bike thieves. We saw the two people but just don’t know where they took our bikes!
Thanks,
two sad bike owners

I live on Ontario street – north of Winchester. Yesterday morning, I looked out our 2nd story window and saw someone trying to get in our garage. I ran outside in time to push him off my bike as he he was riding away. We have his picture. I did call the police and they did me to file a report which I have not done yet.
Thanks for letting us know. We’re glad that you didn’t lose your bike and that you are ok.
Thanks to a very quick response from the TCHC Special Constables the bikes have been retrieved from inside the Winchester rooming houses.
That’s great news! Thanks for letting us know.
Hi there, I had my bike stolen out of our backyard (Ontario/Aberdeen) we believe over the weekend or maybe late in the week. My partner’s lock was also nearly clipped but they must have given up. It is a black commuter bike with front rack and a brown seat, made by Everyday
Any information would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks
I’m sorry to hear that news. If you have any photos of the bicycle, that would really help people to identify it – please send along to info@cabbagetowner.com if you do and I’ll post to our website and to Facebook and Twitter. Also, let us know whether you contacted police so that we can pass that along also.
At about 9 am this morning, Oct.15 Micheal O’Rourke caught a man who had broken in to our locked garage and was in the process of walking out with my bike and some wine bottles. Michael stopped him, took away the bike and bag of wine bottles. A TCH man was is Ishbel lane at the time and came over and talked to the man. The constable (badge # 31133) is Joel Assaly. He took down the name of the man and checked his record with TCH and found nothing and knew of no bicycle thefts that have been going on in this lane over the last 2 or 3 weeks. So he let him go and said nothing was wrong because he was stopped in the act of stealing and therefore he didn’t do any harm.
From what I’ve read above, TCH were aware and involved in the previous thefts, so it seems peculiar that this didn’t come up whrn Joel called in to his office about this.
I am concerned that this continues to go on. It sounds as if perhaps the TCH tenants are working for a bike theft organization and making a little money by bringing them stolen bikes.
Joel said if the police want to follow up with this thief, Joel will give them his name. If they want the name and coordinates for Micheal, I will give them to the police.
Thanks very much.
I appreciate your help with this. I will call the police myself if no one else.
Thank you for your note, and I’m glad that you were able to interrupt the theft. That does seem confusing about TCH not being aware of the earlier thefts, since our sources informed us that it was the TCH Special Constables who were able to retrieve the bicycles. I will contact you directly about contacting the police.
